Bustle – PSA: Calling Someone “Anorexic” Is Never A Compliment

Dr. Danielle Forshee, Psy.D., spoke with Bustle about the harmful effects of using the term “anorexic” casually.

“When the term anorexic is used casually, there is an association between the person who is being called anorexic and their thinness,” Dr. Danielle Forshee, Psy.D. tells Bustle via email. Dr. Danielle Forshee, Psy.D., points to the fact that a defining feature of anorexia is “a disturbance in the way you perceive the shape of your body or your weight,” and that associating a particular body type with the disease can reinforce the dangerous and incorrect idea that anorexia can lead to that body type.
