Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and so are the dreaded groans of every single person on the planet. Well, that’s not quite true, not every singleton. In fact, there are many who have learned to shut out the “holiday” entirely because, being single doesn’t mean that you have to be unhappy any time of the year, especially during the month of love.
There are a number of reasons that people are single and they are single at all ages – whether it be through choice, due to a break up in later in life, the loss of a spouse or just a small dating pool. If you go back to the 60s, 90% of Americans over 25 were married. That’s not the case today.
It’s All About You
Why not dedicate the month of love to celebrating all of the aspects of your life that are improved by your singleness? More importantly, why not celebrate you and your uniqueness? While everyone else is spending money to purchase products that have been price hiked for the “holiday”, you can treat yourself to books, ice cream, and well, whatever you want. Just think about your life and everything in it. You might be single but look at all the other amazing things you have. The friendships that you have, the social life you lead, your career… all of that is a direct result of your singleness.
A relationship doesn’t increase your value as a person, that’s entirely up to you. Not everyone on this planet is interested in being in a relationship either. Many people feel pressured into love by the people around them. So, they settle for anyone and they are quietly miserable with someone they can barely stand the sight of. Not you, though, you didn’t fall for that.
A Few of Your Favorite Things
Sit yourself down and create a month of fun to celebrate you. What are your favorite things to do, to eat, drink, and beyond? Make a schedule for the month so you can enjoy all of these things. A bubble bath with a glass of bubbly and a good book? Perhaps it’s an action movie and popcorn. Whatever it is, make time to enjoy it and invite some friends along, too.
You don’t need to be in a relationship to find happiness. What you do need to be happy is to be happy in yourself.
Happiness Comes From Within
The only relationship that will never end is the one that you have with yourself. So, let everyone else go crazy for a holiday that was invented by greeting card companies. This is your opportunity to celebrate your happiness as you are, and to embrace it. Spoil yourself with a bit of self-care. You are worthy of love and that love, that happiness… it all starts inside you.
